CHARGES TO THE ATHLETIC COMMITTEE FOR FY -03

STANDING CHARGES

 

  1. Monitor the academic screening practices, academic performances, and progress made by student athletes.
  2.  Report Spring and Fall grades by term.
  3. Report graduation rates according to the NCAA reporting procedure.
  4. Oversee all other programs designed to insure the academic success, personal development, and personal welfare of student athletes.
  5. Monitor the structure, lines of responsibility, supervision and effectiveness of the on-going programs of the Student Support Services and the Hale Center for Academic Achievement
  6. Oversee compliance with the 10 days-absence-policy for class time missed in a semester because of sports participation.
  7. Monitor the drug testing practices and policies of the Athletics Department to insure they are adequate to detect and deter drug usage.
  8. Review the athletic recruiting practices and maintain regular communications with the NCAA compliance officer.
  9. Monitor the KUAC ticket distribution and pricing policy, as well as related problems with respect to students, staff, faculty, and retirees, especially with the pending reseating in the Fieldhouse. 
  10. Monitor the improvement and development of athletic facilities in regard to their effects on students, faculty, staff, and retirees.
  11. Monitor the use of student fee generated funds to women's and non-revenue generating sports.
  12. Submit to SenEx

a. the approved minutes from each KUAC Board meeting

b. recommendations for actions as they are approved by the committee

c. a final report by April 1, 2003

 

ADDITIONAL CHARGES

 

  1. Continue to monitor the Athletics Director's approach to maintaining a balance between academics and athletics. 

 

14. Explore the possibility of including a classified staff representative and an unclassified, non-teaching staff representative on the KUAC Board. Report to SenEx by 12/31/02.

 

15. Continue to develop and monitor activities aimed at acknowledging students, faculty, staff, or alumni for their support in the same manner that commercial sponsors are acknowledged.

 

16. Submit to SenEx by 12/31/02:

a) a report of how the funds generated from the women’s and non-revenue fee were spent during the 2001-2002 fiscal year.

b) a report about the University of Kansas’ compliance with title IX, both currently and when the University of Kansas will be in complete compliance.

 

17.  Suggest a new name for the women’s and non-revenue sports fee.

 

18. Consider increasing the student membership on the committee.
