CHARGES TO THE COMMITTEE ON ACADEMIC COMPUTING

AND TELECOMMUICATIONS FOR FY-02

Standing Charges

1.      Meet with the Provost and/or the Provost’s representative to offer the Committee's assistance on Academic Computing and Telecommunications matters.

 

2.      Provide faculty, students and staff input for the strategic initiatives of Information Technology Services and Instructional Development and Support.

 

3.      Monitor the implementation of the Regent’s Intellectual Property policy and report to SenEx.  Serve as a forum for discussing distance learning, online instruction, intellectual property and other issues relating to academic use of information technology.

 

4.      Communicate with the Senate Library Committee to ensure effective use of library technology.

 

5.      Submit to SenEx: a) the approved minutes of each meeting; b) recommendations approved by the committee, and c) a final report by April 1, 2002.  The final report should outline the committee's accomplishments and make recommendations for the following year(s).

 

Additional Charges

 

6.      Continue to review the current organization for faculty/staff/student off campus access accounts and encourage steps for improving coordination/uniformity.

 

7.      Continue to review the new Exchange/Outlook email, and examine methods of encouraging faculty and departments who have not yet migrated.

 

8.      Evaluate the desirability of urging close cooperation with KanRen in its efforts to upgrade the capability of the network between Lawrence and Kansas City.

 

9.      Monitor, review, and make recommendations on all NTS policies and practices including but not limited to; current funding structure, implications of advanced activities that require multicasting-enabled communications, topology of communications under the Internet 2 protocols, and other NTS activities that impact the University of Kansas.

 

10.  Encourage the University to provide local computer support in each building with the goal of one FTE for each one hundred computers.

 

11.  Develop a policy framework to guide the use of University Information Technology Resources and the rights and responsibilities of all users.
