CHARGES TO THE UNIVERSITY SENATE TASK FORCE ON LEARNER OUTCOMES

  • A preliminary report on the Task Force’s progress should be e-mailed to the Governance Office (govern@ku.edu) by April 1, 2008.  It is expected that the work of the Task Force will extend into FY09 and that a final report will be produced by mid-December 2008.

 

 

CHARGES

 

The Task Force on Learner Outcomes is established to examine the issues surrounding the assessment of learning by undergraduate students at the University of Kansas , with particular attention to the basic competencies that should be attained by all graduates of the University.  The task force should recommend policies and practices designed to promote the meaningful assessment of learner outcomes so as to measure the effectiveness of the University in fulfilling its teaching mission and promote more effective teaching across the University.  The work of the Task Force will be informed by the report of the Task Force on Teaching and Learning, the state of research and practice in the field nationally, and information obtained from active engagement with faculty, staff and students at the University of Kansas .

 

Specifically, the Task Force should implement the following charges:

 

1.   Identify, if possible, those  “basic competencies” that all graduates of the University of Kansas should attain.

 

2.   To the extent possible, work with the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges to contribute to and learn from its study of the measurement of learner outcomes.

 

3.  Review current practices and procedures concerning assessment of learning by Undergraduates and recommend additions or changes to those practices and procedures. 

 

The Task Force is requested to review and, where appropriate, recommend specific changes to the applicable University Senate Rules and Regulations for review by SenEx and consideration by the University Senate, or any applicable Faculty Senate Rules and Regulations for review by FacEx and consideration by the Faculty Senate.  It may also recommend any other actions that the University of Kansas should take to improve assessment of learner outcomes.
