CHARGES TO THE LIBRARIES COMMITTEE FOR FY-06

Standing Charges

1.       Keep informed of the budgetary needs and priorities of the KU libraries, including acquisitions, salaries, staffing, space allocations, and accessibility of library materials. Obtain the counsel of the Library leadership regarding these matters.

 

2.       Monitor the functioning of the Library Appeals Board.

 

  1. Monitor the use of revenues generated by the library services fee.

 

  1. Interact as necessary with the Academic Computing & Telecommunications Committee (ACTC) on issues related to information technology, KU ScholarWorks, and the Digital Library.

 

  1. Examine the progress on archival storage and preservation of digital materials. 

 

6.       Submit to SenEx: a) the approved minutes of each meeting (minutes must be kept), b) recommendations for action as they are approved by the committee, and c) a final report by April 1, 2006.  The final report should make clear what was done (or not done) about each of the charges to the committee and make recommendations to SenEx for action.  The report should also provide the names of committee members and include suggestions for charges to, and the chair of, next year's committee.

7.       Monitor the construction of the Library Annex and the selection of material for storage. Assure that storage decisions are based on appropriate criteria that include scholarly browsing and that the website cited in the 2005 committee report is activated.

 

  1. Consider the repositioning and new staffing policies for public service desks in Watson and Anschutz libraries to assure that students and faculty are receiving knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt reference assistance.

 

  1. Examine the integration of KU Info into the library structure and the implications for service.

 

  1. Explore ways that the libraries can attract more faculty, staff & students to its core mission of information provision through both direct building visits and remote electronic connections.
