Charges for the International Affairs Committee for FY06

Standing Charges

 

1.     Help identify the needs of international students by working with the Office of International Scholar and Student Services.

 

2.     Explore with the Applied English Center (AEC) and the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) ways to help non-native English-speaking graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) succeed as teachers.

 

3.     Work with AEC to identify ways to enhance the learning experience for international students at KU by improving their abilities to communicate.

 

4.     Submit to SenEx:

a.   The approved minutes of each meeting.

b.   Recommendations for action as they are approved by the committee.

c.   A final report by April 1, 2006. This report should identify the actions taken in response to these charges and the committee’s recommendations for the following year.

 

Additional Charges

 

5.     Continue to monitor student support for international programs, whether from tuition enhancement or other fees.

 

6.     Continue to provide input on factors affecting international students’ decision to attend institutions other than KU, such as:

        a.   KU procedures for processing admission applications.

        b.   Opportunities at universities in other countries and elsewhere in the U.S.
