a.   Provide an annual report to SenEx on standards used for the certification of non-native English speaking GTAs;

b.   Provide a general assessment of the performance of non-native English speaking GTAs;

c.   Advise SenEx on whether AEC programs for non-native English speaking graduate students are meeting the goals of preparing these students to communicate effectively in both teaching and learning environments, and propose needed modifications to these programs, and;

Additional Charges

  1. Review the FY03-04 proposal for using tuition enhancement and other student fees to fund international programs. Consider whether this proposal furthers the international goals of the University, and whether it should be modified and submitted to SenEx for reconsideration or abandoned. Submit the results of this review process to SenEx.

  1. Consult with CTE, OIRP and the Graduate School to identify a mechanism for obtaining data on the performance and un-addressed language needs of non-native speaking GTAs, for example through a survey to assess the classroom performance of non-native English speaking GTAs.

3.   Consult with the Office of International Scholar and Student Services, the Graduate School, and relevant academic units on potential intra-University barriers to the recruitment of international graduate students, report potential barriers to SenEx, and make recommendations that would reduce or eliminate these barriers.
